Vibraphonist, pianist and percussionist
Craig Fundyga is well-versed in just about every facet of music
imaginable and his understanding of various music styles is simply
amazing. This has enabled him to become one of LA’s premier session
players. He has performed for famous dignitaries, presidents and for
celebrities such as Liz Taylor, Barbra Streisand, Geena Davis and
Quincy Jones, to name a few. You can hear his playing in numerous
movies and he has performed on-screen in television shows such as
Friends and Malcolm in the Middle.
Craig began to teach himself drums at
age five. He received his first vibraphone at thirteen and
immediately began teaching himself to play the "vibes". This
self-taught approach to the instrument gave him a very unusual and
unorthodox playing style. At the age of eighteen, Craig’s unique
style was noticed by the legendary saxophonist Phil Woods and he was
subsequently asked to perform on stage with Phil.
In 1984, Craig moved from
Philadelphia
to Los Angeles and he can now be found performing at
various clubs, resorts and hotels throughout Southern California. He
has taken his jazz quartet to various colleges as a guest performer,
explaining jazz improvisation to eager young students. Craig’s most
recent endeavor is performing as the featured member of the salsa
group, Lucky 7. The band will be releasing their debut CD in the
summer of 2009.
