Direct from New Orleans, Jamil Sharif carries with him a long and distinguished musical heritage. He is the son of renowned jazz trumpeter Umar Sharif (Emery Humphrey Thompson) and great-grandson of Professor Jim (J.B.) Humphrey. His father, Umar, performed in Broadway's Black and Blue and with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. His great-grandfather, Jim, was a legendary music teacher of many musicians in New Orleans, as well as some of the South's musical legends. Born and raised in New Orleans, Jamil has performed and recorded with some of the music industry's giants.

Jamil has traveled extensively to countries such as Japan, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, England, Scotland, Finland and France, entertaining a variety of audiences. Jamil has performed at the Newport Rhythm and Blues Festival, Essence Music Festival, Chicago Jazz Festival, Chicago Blues Festival, Stockholm Jazz and Blues Festival, Pori Jazz Festival, Fiesta New Orleans Festival and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Following his father's footsteps, he also has performed with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of  Wynton Marsalis. Other credits include Aaron Neville's Christmas Special and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.
