Scorching guitar, wailing sax and blues harp,
snarling B-3 organ and funky, low-down bass and drum grooves propel the soulful
vocals, igniting the live performances of The Blues Odyssey.
This five-man band, featuring four
distinctive lead vocalists, takes the listener on a true odyssey: a
musical journey from the Mississippi delta, to the south side of
Chicago, to the roadhouses of Texas
JON WALMSLEY (guitar/vocals)
An accomplished multi-instrumentalist,
songwriter and producer, Jon is a veteran of the stage and studio,
having performed with many notable artists including (deep breath)
Richard Marx, Brian Setzer, David Koz, The Doobie Brothers, Gregg
Allman, Merle Haggard, Roy Acuff, Laurence Juber, John Mayall, Denny
Laine, Spencer Davis, Peter & Gordon, Jackie Lomax, Roger Daltrey,
Eric Johnson, Buddy Miles, Jesse Colin Young, Albert Lee, The Beach
Boys’ Al Jardine and David Marks, Dean Torrence of Jan and Dean and
the Strawberry Alarm Clock.
MICKEY CHANCE (keyboards/vocals)
Mickey plays it close to the vest, but
this much is known: He has performed around the world, including
Singapore, Bangkok, Australia, Africa, Alaska, Hawaii, and the
Caribbean; at Radio City Music Hall, the Louisiana Superdome, and on
the NBC’s ‘The Tonight Show’ (five times.) Mickey also enjoyed an
extended stay in Jacksonville, Florida, one of the cradles of
Southern blues and rock. Mickey’s performances often recall the look
and feel of legendary bluesman, Gregg Allman.
JIMMY Z (sax and harp/vocals)
There’s a reason legendary blues diva
Etta James calls Jimmy Z her “Hootchie Cootchie Man”, and Dave
Stewart of the Eurythmics calls him “the best harmonica player in
the world.” Jimmy attracts attention. He caught the attention of Rod
Stewart, Tom Petty, the Eurythmics, Jaguares – all of whom he
recorded and toured with. He also caught the attention of Dr. Dre,
Eric Burdon, Carol King, Barry White, Ziggy Marley, Yes, Bon Jovi,
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Slash's Snakepit, Macy Gray, John Mayer, Pink,
Gladys Knight, Les McCann and countless others who sought out Jimmy
Z’s blazing harmonica and soulful saxophone to spice up their
recordings.
LYNN WOOLEVER (bass)
Lynn “Wooly” Woolever was born in Tulsa,
Oklahoma, and spent time in Jacksonville, FL, before coming to
California. His influences include the blues of Jimi Hendrix, Cream,
and Led Zeppelin; he has the funkiest groove known to man. He is a
graduate of the Berklee College of Music, and has performed with
Clarence Clemons (Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band), Tori Amos,
Wayne Cochran, Brenda Russell, Garth Hudson of The Band, and Glenn
Yarbrough. Wooly’s bass is The Blues Odyssey’s rocket fuel.
TODD TATUM (drums/vocals)
Todd is an extremely versatile drummer
who has played live and in the studio with a long list of artists,
including Rhino recording artists Big Daddy, Micky Dolenz of the
Monkees, Laurence Juber (Paul McCartney & Wings), Norton Buffalo,
Paul Williams, Florence LaRue, Gordon (5th Dimension), and comedians
Sid Ceasar and Phyllis Diller. Todd has also appeared with jazz
greats Nina Freelon and Billy Childs in the Mel Gibson film "What A
Woman Wants".
