Michael McKinnon - Lead/Background Vocals & Bass

Mike has been playing bass for 40 years. He was originally inspired when he heard bassist Rocco Prestia from the band Tower of Power for the first time around 1972. Since then his focus has been on the bass, both electric and upright. Michael played with many popular Southern California bands, but moved to Northern California in the early 80s. While there, Mike played with many great jazz/funk musicians and artists such as Trey Stone, (guitarist and writer for P funk), Daniel Bejarano, (drummer for Gladys Knight, Mavis Staples) and many more. Mike played the jazz festival circuit as the bassist for Tower of Power keyboardist Roger Smith. Mike also did session work with Tower of Power drummer David Garibaldi, Roger Smith, Ray Obiedo (guitarist for Herbie Hancock and Sheila E.) as well as other well-known artists. Since moving back to Southern California, Mike plays bass with SoundHouse, and tours with blues/soul artist Missy Andersen, who was twice nominated for best blues/soul female vocalist in 2015 and 2016 by the American blues awards.
